Customer Success Manager

Customer success managers are responsible for the satisfaction of business customers in tech companies. Among other things, they encourage to use the product, reduce the churn percentage and increase the customers’ loyalty in order to raise their lifetime value (LTV) over time. Customer Success (CS) teams often exist in B2B companies that work with significant, large-scale business customers requiring proper management to avoid losing them. The average duration of the initial position as a CSM is two years and may vary, depending on the organization.

Customer Service Representative

In some companies, the CS position also refers to Customer Service, while in other companies, there is a clear distinction between the roles of Customer Success and Customer Service representatives. Support representatives are more reactive – they handle customer-initiated calls and respond to customer requests. Professionals call it inbound marketing. Performance is usually measured via service-related KPIs, such as response time and customer satisfaction as a result of handling a malfunction or service issue. It is considered a junior position that allows entering the tech industry.
